Relax: mountain air, great views, fine food ..

All these can be found at our lovely holiday home nestling in the foothills of the Apennine mountains within one of the Lunigiana's most beautiful and well preserved villages. Facing south east, the terrace enjoys sunshine in the morning and relaxing shade in the afternoon. The gentle, friendly countryside offers an oasis of peace and tranquility in an unspoilt area which still has a unique (and largely sustainable) lifestyle. Watch the local shepherd guide his sheep and goats back from their pastures, and buy the cheese at the local shop!

Dine on the terrace and watch the sunset or eat out at one of the area's many (very reasonably priced) restaurants providing local specialities in food & wine.

The house ...
The property is centuries old, but in recent times it has been sympathetically restored by a local Italian family. All modern conveniences are provided including mains gas fired central heating and (British) satellite TV/DVD. On the ground floor there is a dining kitchen with fridge-freezer, dishwasher, gas hob and electric oven, a sitting room with a log burning fire and a lovely terrace offering fantastic views. There are also two double bedrooms and a bathroom.

On the first floor there is a very large twin room, a further sitting room, and a second bathroom with walk-in shower. Below the house there are two "cantinas": a laundry complete with washing machine and iron/ironing board, and a separate wine cellar which now contains our stock of firewood together with various items of outdoor equipment (bicycles, helmets, barbecue etc).

Activities for the energetic ....
Walking, scrambling (inc via ferrata), ski-ing, snow shoeing, horse riding and cycling are some of the many outdoor activities to enjoy if fresh air and exercise are what you're after.Click here for details.

... and for those not quite so energetic ...
Pottering around Lusignana and its neighbouring villages is a delight, especially when the sun is shining. The church annexe contains a museum of contadini  (peasant)  life, and a modest walk away lies the historic site of Monte Castello.

Where is Lusignana?
Lusignana is a 75min drive north of Pisa, near the mediaeval town of Pontremoli. The seaside villages of the Cinque Terre (a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997) and the beautiful resorts of Lerici and Portovenere are about 50mins drive away.

The Apennine mountains (as described by Eric Newby in his book 'Love & War in the Apennines') and the Apuan Alps, source of Carrara marble, run through the Lunigiana. See the lovely mediaeval village of Filetto with its antiques market and Bagnone with its plunging gorge. If you hanker for the sophistication of the city, try Parma, Lucca or La Spezia. Florence is just 2hrs drive away - even better, go by train!
